In the good old days, pan crafts were very popular amongst women in the villages. Pan craft works were trained from grandma to granddaughters as a hobby to enjoy and spend their free time together. They spent their leisure time preparing many useful items to use in day-to-day life in the household using seasoned reeds and other plant raw materials. Among the rural industries in Sri Lanka, the rush and reed industry has rater significant place in certain villages.
The useful handmade products that they made using seasoned rush & reeds are durable and resistant to insect attacks.
Common names of useful reed equipment that they use in village life are watti (trays), petti (boxes ), paduru (mats), gamanmalu (bags/sacs), hambili (small purses), paha (strainer), etc.
Our effort is to introduce these eco-friendly items to the modern world and encourage the limited skilled artisan families to continue their technics for future generations
On this platform, we introduce handmade rush and reed products made in rural village families. When you purchase an item from this platform, you are directly participating to protect the nature and environment. At the same time, you involve in feeding and encouraging the families of those who are still actively continuing this disappearing artisanship. All the products that we introduce on this platform are plant-based. Raw materials are collected from the wild and no fertilizers or chemical treatments are used.
