Description, Nutrition Contents & Health Benefits
Even before becoming a colony of the British, Sri Lanka attracted maritime merchants because of the spice gardens of Sri Lanka, where Cloves, Cardamom, Pepper, Nutmeg, Mace, Ginger, and cinnamon were grown, processed, and exported on a large scale from the earliest of times. Historically, the most important have been spices from the spice gardens of Sri Lanka, mainly cinnamon. In fact, so strong is the connection between Cinnamon and Sri Lanka that its botanical name, Cinnamomum Zeylanicum, is derived from the island’s former name, Ceylon.
Some of these spices, like cinnamon and cloves, are used as ingredients in the cosmetic industry as well, mainly because of their distinctive fragrance.
Spices can boost the immune power in the human body and react as a form of resistance to sickness.
Sri Lanka’s soil, climate, and geographical formations are ideal for growing spices, and all these factors together give good, healthy spice production not only to the nation but also to its enthusiastic consumers around the world. Some spices are grown throughout the island, and for some, there are specific climatic zones.

Cinnamon cultivations are found in down south humid zones commonly known as the “wet zone.” The soil is rich and, with humidity, the sea is not far away. Humidity in the air, breeze (dryness or wetness in the wind), rainfall, soil formation, and moisture percentage in the air are the main factors to having a rich, unique flavor & aroma in Ceylon Cinnamon.
Our cinnamon quills come from down south region. The humid climate, along with the above-mentioned factors, gives them a special concentrated aroma and a distinctly exotic flavor.

Health Benefits
01- Diabetes
Recent studies have found that cinnamon may help control blood sugar levels. In 2003, for example, Diabetes Care found that people with type 2 diabetes who took 1, 3, or 6 grams of cinnamon reduced their fasting blood glucose levels by 18–29 percent, and also reduced triglycerides by 23–30 percent. It also reduced LDL cholesterol by 7–27 percent and total cholesterol by 12–26 percent.
02- Alzheimer’s disease
According to a 2009 study, extracts of Ceylon cinnamon inhibited the formation of the proteins and filaments that are the hallmark of Alzheimer’s disease. Researchers isolated a certain flavonoid (proanthocyanidin) from cinnamon and determined it had the majority of inhibitory properties.
03- Cancer
One animal study found that a particular component in cinnamon impaired the proliferation of cancer cells and slowed tumor growth. A second study published in 2010 also found that cinnamon extracts were directly linked with anti-tumor effects.
04- Anti-inflammatory
A study from South Korea found that compounds from cassia cinnamon had promise as an anti-inflammatory agent, with the potential to treat dyspepsia, gastritis, and other inflammatory diseases.
05- Anti-microbial
Several studies have indicated that cinnamon has the ability to fight off bacteria. One published in 2007, for example, found that even low concentrations boosted the activity of the antibiotic “clindamycin.” The study authors wrote that the results suggested that cinnamon could be used in combination therapy against certain stubborn strains of bacterial infections.
