    Rasakinda -(Tinospora cordifolia) -common names are gurjo, heart-leaved moonseed, guduchi or giloy is a herbaceous vine of the family Menispermaceae indigenous to tropical regions of the Indian subcontinent. Its root stems, and leaves are used in Ayurvedic medicine.

    Tinospora cordifolia (wild Hook) is an important medicinal plant distributed throughout in Sri Lanka and commonly known as Rasakinda in Sinhala and Giloy in English. It is widely used in Sri Lankan traditional medical system and Ayurveda for the treatment of diabetes mellitus, fever, arthritis, skin diseases and for Rasayana (rejuvenating) therapies due to its anti-inflammatory, hypoglyceamic, immunomodulatory, antioxident, anti-allergy, antipyretic, antiarthritic and various other medicinal properties.

    What it contains:

    Tinospora cordifolia contains many different chemicals that might affect the body. Some of these chemicals have antioxidant effects. Others might increase the activity of the body’s immune system. Some chemicals might have activity against cancer cells .

    Giloy is a source of many important plant compounds, namely terpenoids, alkaloids, lignans, and steroids. Lab studies suggest these compounds have antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antidiabetic properties, among other benefits.

    Nutrition Facts 

    Giloy contains adequate amounts of carbohydrates, protein, fiber, minerals and is low in fat. About 100g of Giloy provides 292.54 calories. The crude values of the food content in Tinospora cordifolia are Carbohydrate-61.66%, Protein-4.5%to11.2%, Fat-3.1%, Fiber-15.9%

    The plant is also rich in minerals such as Zinc, Cobalt, Potassium (0.845%), Manganese, Chloride, Copper, Calcium (0.131%), Iron (0.28%), Chromium (0.006%).

    How to prepare Rasakinda -(Tinospora cordifolia) herbal tea

    Keep in mind that the vessel you choose is capable of enduring the temperature of boiling hot water. Pour the water that you boiled into the vessel making it a point that the stem cut into pieces are completely covered by it. Cover the vessel and let it sit for about 30-40 minutes. Once you immerse in water dehydrated pieces of stem  become fresh by absorbing water .Once you do infusion it generate almost the same original fresh product with all natural properties in it such as colour taste and natural aroma.
